Godzilla 2014

I look forward to seeing this one.

Tokyo Five

In 1998, Hollywood made a 「ゴジラ」 (“Godzilla“) movie.

1998

Or, I should say, they tried to make a Godzilla movie.  It wasn’t very good. Most people, especially die-hard Godzilla fans disliked that movie.

So, it was a bit of a surprise when another Hollywood studio announced that they will release another big-budget “Hollywood”Godzillamovie.

But, they assure us, this one will be a “true” Godzillafilm. It’s going to more like the Japanese Godzilla movies.  In fact, it isn’t going to be entirely made by an American studio…the Hollywood studio “Warner Bros.” and the Japanese studio “Toho” (who made the original Godzilla movies) have collaborated to make the upcoming Godzilla movie that is scheduled for release in 2014.

都民の日

This must be one of the benefits of studying a long time. If I was a student in Tokyo I would want to go to one of these places.

Tokyo Five

Today (October 1st) is 「都民の日」 (Tokyo Residents’ Day).

I wrote about this day last year (Click here to read it).

Students in Tokyo have the day off today, and public zoos, aquariums and museums offer free admission today (private ones normally don’t).

If you’re in Tokyo and you want to go somewhere free (and don’t mind the inevitable crowd)…here’s a list of places in Tokyo offering free admission on October 1st every year (there may be others…these are the ones I remember off hand):

Koishikawa Korakuen
Tama Zoo
Ueno Zoo
Tokyo Sea Life Park
Inokashira Zoo
Yumenoshima Greenhouse
Edo-Tokyo Museum
Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum
